Out of Office #14 ‘MOOCs: beyond the hype’
Although education is always changing, the practice itself seems rather resistant to real innovation. Two hundred years ago classrooms were used more or less in the same way as they are today: a single teacher in front of a group of students. Yet in today’s digital age times are a changing.
Tech-giants like Google and Facebook are taking up seats in classrooms, venture capitalists invest billions of dollars in education start-ups, and companies like Duolingo, Coursera and EdX promise a world of free education.
During Kennisland’s Out of Office #14 we will take a look at the fast changing world of education technology. We will focus on the phenomenon of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), which makes studying at Ivy League schools accessible to anyone. We will ask questions like: did education really become open and free? And how will such technological trends affect the future of education?
