OpenIDEO Hackathon ZIKA and Future Threats

Join in the the 1st OpenIDEO Inspiration meetup in Spring House: Help tackle the zika virus and future health threats challenge.

Springhouse member Jeroen Spoelstra organizes the 1ste OpenIDEO meetup on June 14th in Springhouse. OpenIDEO is a global community working together to design solutions for the world's biggest challenges.

Are you interested in Human Centered Design, Healthcare, the OpenIDEO platform or you just want to take this opportunity to meet and work with other Springhouse members, you normally wouldn’t work with. Then you are more then welcome to join the OpenIDEO meet up.

The goal for the meet up is to come up with inspiring stories, ideas and other contributions to the OpenIDEO platform that can help solve the Zika and Future health threats challenge. And just have a fun with together.

The Challenge we will be working on: How might we boldly and imaginatively combat Zika and future health threats?

The Zika virus outbreak has been declared a global health emergency by the World Health Organization (WHO). As of mid-April, Zika had spread to 33 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean – a staggering 1.5 million people are thought to be infected in Brazil. Zika is typically transmitted by mosquitoes but can also transmitted sexually. It may also cause serious birth defects in babies whose mothers were infected while pregnant. Outbreaks like Zika, Ebola, and SARS reveal our very real vulnerabilities to major health crises—and underscore the urgent need to bolster our preparedness and capacity to respond. We must not wait until the next outbreak is upon us to close current gaps in our prevention, detection, and response capabilities in developing countries.

The goal is to develop solutions that tackle a number of critical issues related to preventing, detecting and responding to the spread of Zika and future health threats. In the Research Phase by hearing community stories and needs, and in the Ideas Phase hearing from diverse groups how we might boldly and imaginatively prevent, detect and respond to Zika and future threats.
